DJI wanted to renew its mobile gimbal, the DJI Osmo 3, with a new model based on its predecessor, adding a magnetic hook as the main novelty.
It is the DJI OM4, a model with a simpler name, but that comes with the same intentions to conquer the segment of stabilizers in the middle price ranges.
Pass by our analysis table this DJI OM4, a device that we already told you that we liked a lot and that comes to be one of the most competitive alternatives in value for money.
Let's see what this new version is capable of offering.
DJI OM4 Datasheet DJI OM4 DIMENSIONS AND WEIGHT Unfolded: 276 × 119.6 × 103.6 mm Folded: 163 × 99.5 × 46.5 mm Weight: 390 g PANORAMIC ANGLE Pan: ?161.2 ° to 171.95 ° Rotation: ?136.7 ° to 198 ° Tilt: from ?106.5 ° to 235.5 ° Bluetooth 5.0 CONNECTION SUPPORTED WEIGHT 230 ± 60 g AUTONOMY Up to 15 hours (2450 mAh) Charging time 2,5h SOFTWARE DJI Mimo EXTRAS application 1/4 "thread Tripod Magnetic clamp Price 150 euros Design: good construction and maximum comfort Talking about DJI, in general, is talking about good construction.
The DJI OM4 is very similar to the previous generation model: built in plastic, with a very comfortable grip and a more than solid button panel.
Specifically, we find a button to operate the stand, record button, zoom, a shutter-release button and the button to switch modes.
The shutter button is striking, which looks more like a trigger than a normal button.
The shutter button looks like a trigger of game console instead of a button to use and it is m very comfortable.
The gimbal weighs 390 grams, something that is understood given the build quality and the gigantic battery that we will talk about later.
In addition, we can fix it some legs that allow us to "anchor" it to the ground.
This will help us both to use some video recording modes while using the tripod legs and to calibrate the mobile on the gimbal.
This is the magnet that you have to put on the mobile, with a sticker that protects it.
This is the space where the magnetic support is located.
And this is how the mobile looks when we fix it with the magnet, without any type of clamp.
The main point at the design level in this DJI OM4 is that the mobile holder includes a powerful magnet.
Despite being the star feature of the gimbal, server has found it much more comfortable with the classic clamp, let me explain.
Using the magnet has several negative consequences.
The first one is that we have to put a sticker on the mobile that includes DJI so as not to damage the back of the mobile.
A sticker that will cost a lot to remove and on top of which the magnet goes.
Putting the magnet on the mobile means losing the wireless charge (if there is one), not being able to put covers on and, at the grip level, it is much more unstable than the metal clamp Goodbye covers, goodbye wireless charging and discomfort, that's what I have found having a magnet in the center of my smartphone.
The positive side is that we can save a few seconds when hooking the device to the gimbal but, in my opinion, it is not worth saving 2 or 3 seconds in exchange for these inconveniences.
The clamp offers much more support surface, is more stable and leaves us calm.
With the magnet we feel that the mobile can be detached at any time.
In addition to this, a magnet, no matter how powerful, will never be more secure than a clamp.
If we are very rough with the movements or the mobile is very heavy, we have verified that it is not difficult for the mobile to fall if only the magnet holds it.
Thus, our recommendation is still the clamp, quite solid, well built and very safe.
Application and connection Although there are some complaints in the application stores, in our case the DJI application has portrayed with note.
We have tested the app on both iOS and Android and have been able to pair the device via Bluetooth in a matter of seconds.
Once the phone is calibrated we can use either the DJI app or any other camera app, but in this case DJI incorporates very striking functions, so we are going to dedicate a few lines to them.
Specifically, these are the functions that we will find when opening the camera interface: Photo Video Dyna-zoom Panoramic Story Timelapse Hyperlapse In addition to these functions, the DJI application allows you to configure the focus, white balance and everything in detail.
related to image quality.
The app requires a certain learning curve as it is so dense, but it is not difficult to use.
We can use the gimbal with the application we want, although it is always advisable to calibrate it with its own application, at least the first time.In our case we have observed that the DJI application is not very good at managing color and dynamic range, so depending on the mobile it may be more convenient to use the native app.
An outstanding battery Battery indicator on the DJI OM4.
DJI promises up to 15 hours of recording with the OM4.
In our tests, after a few hours of daily recording, the battery has dropped very little, and we have not even been able to drain it in a week.
It is a great autonomy and, so much so, that the DJI OM4 can even charge other mobiles if we connect a cable to its Type A input.
The DJI OM4 is capable of charging other terminals through a USB-A port.
The gimbal is charged with a USB C port The charge is carried out with a USB Type C and is quite slow, taking more than 2 hours.
However, autonomy is not a problem and if we do several recording sessions, we will have to charge the mobile a few times before the gimbal, since it is fireproof.
Stabilization quality The stabilization quality of the DJI OM4 is outstanding, especially if we consider its price.
The only point here is that, if the mobile is quite heavy, it is easy to end up decalibrating.
Even if this happens, the stabilization work will be correct, although not nearly as perfect as if it were calibrated.
[embed]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AX5W3xdLit4[/embed] In this video, running with the gimbal, we can see that the stabilization work is surprising.
The mobile does not move the slightest, each step is cushioned and the gimbal fulfills its function: the entire shot is stable, without shaking.
[embed]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z3HzaixfFVE[/embed] In this shot we go from walking to running, with the same result as the previous one.
No matter how much we move, the gimbal stabilizes the shot and the results are outstanding.
The DJI app has several modes such as Timpelapse, Hyperlapse or Story, which offer good results (with the aforementioned loss of dynamic range due to not being able to use the mobile HDR) We also find quite fun modes such as Hyperlapse, Timelapse or Storys, in which we can program different panning directions for the mobile to record.
Different templates and letters (customizable) are applied so that we can create our own effects.

It combines different photographs taken during the different positions it has taken and offers us this panorama.
Panoramic of 9 photos Panoramic of 7 horizontal photos.
DJI OM4: the opinion of Engadget Mobile It is difficult to fault the DJI OM4.
The construction is outstanding, the grip (with clamp) is practically perfect, the stabilization work also does check, the battery holds what we ask of it.
If to this we add that the price of the device is 150 euros, the equation is solved satisfactorily.
The DJI OM4 is an outstanding alternative for its price: it fulfills everything that is asked of a gimbal We can point out as negative the ease with which the mobile is decalibrated if we use the gimbal a lot or the doubts raised by the new magnetic support .
Although it is fast and comfortable, it is less safe, although being something optional does not pose a minor problem.
In short, DJI repeats with one of the best gimbal in its price range.
The terminal has been released for testing by DJI.
