Currently, souvenirs in the form of images are not printed as we did before and we are used to seeing the photographs inside the screens, especially those of mobile phones.
It is true that the comfort of the mobile screen is unsurpassed, but for those who miss touching their memories, storing them physically, having them always available and safe from erasure accidents, the printing of images is essential.
Today we analyze the HP Sprocket Plus printer, which allows us to transfer photographic memories to a physical medium in a comfortable and, best of all, portable way.
Memories are shown to be more vivid when they are associated with a physical element, something that can be touched, smelled and seen.
Let's see how this portable printer does it.
The proposition of the HP Sprocket range of printers is to bring convenience and portability to the field of printing.
Rescue the images that accumulate in the memory of the phones and, from there, turn them into photographs in seconds.
Technical specifications of the HP Sprocket Plus HP Sprocket Plus Resolution 330 dpi by 600 dpi Maximum printing 5.8 cm by 8.7 cm RAM memory 512 MB Connectivity Bluetooth 4.0 Battery 900 mAh, 30 prints per charge Compatibility Android 4.4 +, iPhone 5 + BMP , GIF, JPEG, PNG and TIFF Dimensions and weight 141.9 mm x 89 mm x 18 mm 205 grams Price 119 euros 20 adhesive sheets at 12.66 euros The main evolution of HP Sprocket Plus compared to its previous model is the increase in size, to print 30% larger photos.
With this larger final size it is at the level of the increase of the current screen ratios and, that too, gives a little in portability.
The adhesive paper of the new HP Sprocket and, consequently, the photographs it extracts, have a size of 5.8 cm by 8.7 cm.
The printing technology, called Zink Zero Ink, requires no drying time, no ink or too much energy to print images.
All you need is a load of special heat-sensitive paper (the ZINK Smartsheet) that converts heat information into color just like some Polaroids do.
Each envelope of 20 adhesive sheets has a price of 12.66 euros and the resolution of the print is 330 dpi by 600 dpi per inch.
The printer can store up to 10 sheets at a time, which are loaded by opening its top cover, as we see in the image.
The printer can be found in black or white and its dimensions are 141.9mm x 89mm x 18mm, the size of a mid-size phablet phone that is considerably thicker than usual.
The weight does not exceed 205 grams.
The printer connects using Bluetooth 4.0 technology and requires the HP Sprocket app to function properly.
The application is compatible with Android devices from version 4.4 onwards and with devices such as iPhone 5 or higher.
It supports BMP, GIF, JPEG, PNG and TIFF formats, without support for RAW that, directly, will not print.
Impressions after using the HP Sprocket Plus The new HP Sprocket Plus printer is bigger and it shows.
The benefit is clear: larger (but unspectacular) 2: 3 images that can be glued or attached with magnets or clips to any surface.
It is charged via micro USB cable and with its autonomy it can print around 30 photographs.
Setting up the printer is very easy.
Turning it on and linking it via Bluetooth is a truly transparent process that does not keep secrets that the official application itself guides us through.
Sprocket application On your Home screen, the first thing that the free Sprocket application discovers (for iOS and Android), is a window that shows the latest photos stored in the device's gallery, with a first box in which we see the image in direct of what the main camera sees, ready to take a picture and directly start printing at any time.
That first window can be slid to the left to reveal, screen by screen, the entire Instagram image gallery, further to the left, that of Facebook and finally, all the photos that have been uploaded through the personal Google account .
Once the photo has been chosen, you just need to touch it to enter the printing screen.
There, it is possible to rotate it, enlarge the image wherever we want and adapt it to the output format, that 8.7 cm x 5.8 cm sheet.
Moving and rotating the photographs does not work completely smoothly, there are many jerks, but eventually it is possible to adapt them as we want them.
In addition, we can print a single photo in several prints to mount a larger photograph, putting them together.
GIF in real time.
The printing process completes in about 35 seconds.
The buttons below allow you to download the image, print it or share it, although the usual option will be to print.
Between preparing the image, sending it to the printer, and the final printing, no more than 35 seconds elapse.
The same printing process takes around 25 seconds.
The photos in the application can be modified.
Retouching levels of brightness, contrast or color, as well as adding filters and even putting frames and funny stickers on the image is possible with great ease and good results.
Conclusions for using the HP Sprocket Plus The results are quite good.
HP Sprocket Plus does not produce an incredible quality image, noise is noticeable in the final photograph and, if the images are not retouched, they tend to be quite dark.
You can even see the lines that mark the internal rollers when looking at the photo from a certain angle, but you can't expect more from such a compact printer either.
Original photo before printing.
In addition, the image is immediate, it does not require a drying process and the final photograph is of sufficient quality to become a beautiful souvenir to hang in a refrigerator or always carry, for example, inside a wallet.
The HP Sprocket Plus can be obtained for about 119 euros and with this price a package of 10 photographic papers is already included that allow you to start printing from the first moment it comes out of the box.
Each package of ZINK SMartsheet adhesive sheets purchased separately includes 20 sheets at a price of 12.66 euros, that is, 0.63 euros for each impression.
HP Sprocket Plus allows for original image sharing, which is a nice detail to give to friends, family or contacts after a celebration or reunion activity, but it will never replace the quality of a professional printing or a modern home printer of greater Format.
