The Highest Honor – Couture USA

Since 1983, Karl Lagerfeld has worked wonders and breathed new life into Chanel guide the brand to unprecedented levels of success.

Throughout the years, Chanel's style has shifted and thrived thanks to Lagerfeld's certain je ne sais quoi when it comes to design.

Season after season, one thing remained constant: Lagerfeld's relationship with the city of Paris seemed to be a constant source of inspiration.

Today, we're taking a look at Chanel's latest show in Paris and how the city gave back to Lagerfeld by awarding him the La Médaille Grand Vermeil de la Ville.

Karl Lagerfeld's Paris Affair

The city of Paris has been the set of many Chanel shows and, due to the massive flurry of press and travel that surrounds each collection's debut, Lagerfeld's beloved city is giving back.

On July 4th, Chanel hosted a show in Paris that highlighted Chanel's "Greatest Hits." With a set that mirrored the grandiosity of the spaceship that lifted off in the Grand Palais earlier this year during the Fall 2017 show, the scene was perfectly set for a groundbreaking show with a recreated Eiffel Tower as the backdrop.

The city of Paris has honored Lagerfeld with the La Medaille Grand Vermeil de la Ville, the highest honor that a citizen can be granted.

Though Lagerfeld has won awards in the past, including the Outstanding Achievement Award at the British Fashion Awards in 2015, this medal stands above all the rest.

Created in 1911, this award distinguishes individuals for "remarkable acts," which we think Lagerfeld has achieved numerous times throughout his incredible career with Chanel.

To reflect his status of success and meaning to the city of Paris, Lagerfeld was gifted the highest variant of the award: the Vermeil medal.

Looking Closer at Karl Lagerfeld's Greatest Hits Show

Because this show was going to go down in history as the one where Lagerfeld was given La Medaille Grand Vermeil de la Ville, it only seems fitting that Chanel's Greatest Hits show would pay homage to the wonderful designs that shook the fashion world.

Lagerfeld's instantly-recognizable tweed jacket designs were present in different forms - some vintage-inspired, some full-coverage, some glimmered, and others took new-age mod to the next level.

It's clear that Karl Lagerfeld's reign as fashion's prolific darling is as revered as ever, and the city of Paris made that clear with this week's award.

Here at Couture USA, we can't wait to see what new designs Lagerfeld will showcase in the upcoming seasons.
